John Ward will be missed by many because he was always a bright, friendly person who was interested in everything and everyone. He was a kind and loving person. He grew up in Little Valley and was the principal of Grover Cleveland. Even as recently as last fall, a neighbor told me that she had worked as a teacher at Grover when Mr. Ward was principal and told me how much she admired him in that role. He was a wonderful, devoted husband to his beloved Rita and appeared to all to miss her ever so deeply when she died not so long ago. He was a proud father to his children and they took care of him so lovingly these past few years. He was the perfect neighbor. He snow blowed the snow for my in-laws who lived next door even up to the last couple of years. I will never forget him literally diving in an egg toss on Fairchild and coming up with very skinned knees, and the egg, at the annual Faichild block party, just as I will never forget his wife’s perfect, delicious cream puffs at the same event. They don’t make many like Mr. Ward and I was lucky to have known him.
