An item from the Amherst, NY police blotter which appeared in our local newspaper, The Amherst Bee, made its way into the nationally famous New Yorker magazine.  It concerned an Amherst resident who contacted the Amherst police to report a bat sleeping in the basement of his house.  

It turned out to be a black sock.
