OUTSOURCING WORKS SO WELL, INDIA IS EXPORTING JOBS

nullYou’ve made the call to a company to get a question answered, get some problem resolved. After selecting option after option you finally get a human voice. Yeah! Except the voice is coming from somewhere halfway around the world.
“Hello. My name is Hank. How may I help you?” Hank? Probably not. You have been sent to India where many companys outsource jobs to. Well believe it or not, India is outsourcing jobs.

One of the constants of the global economy has been companies moving their tasks — and jobs — to India. But rising wages and a stronger currency here, demands for workers who speak languages other than English, and competition from countries looking to emulate India’s success as a back office — including China, Morocco and Mexico — are challenging that model.

Many executives here acknowledge that outsourcing, having rained most heavily on India, will increasingly sprinkle tasks around the globe. Or, as Ashok Vemuri, an Infosys senior vice president, put it, the future of outsourcing is “to take the work from any part of the world and do it in any part of the world.”

To fight on the shifting terrain, and to beat back emerging rivals, Indian companies are hiring workers and opening offices in developing countries themselves, before their clients do.

DOLLAR FALLS TO NEW LOW AGAINST THE EURO

nullPlanning a vacation overseas in the near future? Make sure you have planned for the newest decline of the dollar compared to the Euro. The euro traded above $1.40 for the first time since the common European currency was introduced.

“Investors dumped dollars yesterday, sending the euro to a record high and putting the American currency at par with the Canadian dollar for the first time in more than 30 years.”

“In practical terms, the recent drop in the dollar’s value is making Boeing jetliners and Manhattan pieds-à-terre a lot cheaper for Europeans and Canadians, while Americans will have to pay more while on vacation in Paris or when buying snowmobiles made in Quebec.”

LOUISIANA PROTEST ECHOES THE CIVIL RIGHTS ERA

nullIn Jena, La., more than 10,000 demonstrators rallied to protest the treatment of six black teenagers. It was a scene remenescent of the 60’s.

“In a slow-moving march that filled streets, spilled onto sidewalks and stretched for miles, more than 10,000 demonstrators rallied Thursday in this small town to protest the treatment of six black teenagers arrested in the beating of a white schoolmate last year.”

“Chanting slogans from the civil rights era and waving signs, protesters from around the nation converged in central Louisiana, where the charges have made this otherwise anonymous town of 3,000 people a high-profile arena in the debate on racial bias in the judicial system.”

ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS CHASE FALSE HOPE TO CANADA

nullIt seems as if our neighbor to the North is on the cusp of living the American nightmare. Illegal immigrants are beginning to arrive in droves. Just a family of 2 at first, then a few families, and now thousands are headed to Canada.

“Fleeing stepped-up sweeps by the American authorities, illegal immigrants to the United States, mostly Mexican, are arriving in growing numbers at the foot of the bridge in this Canadian border town seeking refugee status.”

“Still more immigrants, mostly Mexicans living illegally in Florida, have begun trying to make their way past America’s northern border at other locations, the majority of them flying into the airport in Toronto, Canadian officials said Thursday.”

“The arrivals here began suddenly three weeks ago, just a family or two at first, fueled by the notion — largely unfounded, the authorities here say — that Canada would grant them asylum.”

NO MORE FREE RIDES FOR AMHERST CANDIDATES

demsandrepublican.jpgThe most important race in the upcoming November election is the race to seat 3 new people on our Town Board. Council members Mike McGuire, Bill Kindel and Bill O’Loughan’s seats are up for grabs.

There will be 4 Republicans and 3 Democrats seeking these 3 very important seats. The number of Democrat and Republican voters in Amherst is roughly equal.

There is a great need for the voters to get to know the men running for these seats. The voters must understand what each of the 7 men really stand for and what they will try to get done in Amherst.

The BS rhetoric about lowering taxes without cutting deep into services and laying off town workers is a joke. If any candidate makes this promise, mark him of your list. We all know politicians lie during their campaign to simply get votes. Catch them in their lies and challenge them.

Ask candidates the hard questions about what they really plan to accomplish in Amherst. The voters must demand all 7 candidates be in an open forum where questions are asked by the public. A “Meet the Candidate” forum like this, held in one of our local high schools, would draw voters.

CAN CANDIDATES FOR PUBLIC OFFICE BE INFLUENCED BY LARGE MONETARY DONATIONS ?

dollarsign.gifDuring the next 2 months I will report on the happenings of candidates who may affect Amherst. The reports will include a listing of the heavy contributors to the candidates. We will see whether the developers continue to heavily support the Republicans candidates financially.

It may be just a coincidence but, past Town Boards have approved over 95% of developers requests to build in Amherst. The Republicans have controlled the Town Board for last 100 years compared to the Democrats two years.

Various conclusions may be drawn from the fact that developers, contractors and many others connected to the building trades, including sectaries and attorneys, donated heavily to the Republican candidates. This large sum of money greatly helped Republican candidates win, and remain in control of, the Town Board. Presently there are 5 Republicans and two Democrats on our Town Board.

Democrats have refused to take any contributions from people in the building trades. There are no fat cows out there to hand over large sums of money to them. There isn’t another group of people in Amherst who can in anyway match the amount of money the Republican candidates have received in the past from the extended family of the building trades.

When questioned about how much money various Republican candidates have received from building trade connected people, the first words out of the candidate’s mouth is usually something like, “No one can buy my vote” followed by, “Are you challenging my integrity?”

I am not saying that large donations can buy any politician’s vote or support for any special interest group. I am simply going to follow the donation trail. My job will be to put up the candidate’s name, political party, and who their main contributors are. You will be able to draw your own conclusions and ask questions of the candidates you are following.

I hope this information will be useful to the voters at election time.

POLITICAL COMMENTARY

nullThe public enjoys reading negative information, either true or not, about anyone, but especially about politicians running for office.

There were several negative mailers sent out during the last week of the primary campaign. One was received the day before the Primary. It concerned the selection of 3 out of 5 Republicans for the 3 open seats on the Amherst Town Board.

This piece of trash gave twisted information and inferred present Council member Bill Kindel wasn’t the person you should vote for to be one for the 3 people to run for the Amherst Town Board. Bill Kindel had no chance to respond to this negative piece of trash.

History tells us any maverick, like Kindel, will always be lied about because they are a force who tells the truth and that often upsets the status quo.

When will the public learn? If you read smut about people you should then use the flier to line your garbage pail. The public should remember how negative lies have hurt them in their own life. What would happen if negative lies were being spread about you?

Don’t ever forget, people love to read smut about anyone and everyone.

RESULTS OF PRIMARY ELECTIONS WHICH DIRECTLY AFFECT AMHERST

In the Republican Primary for Highway Supertendent Bob Anderson, the incumbent beat his opponent almost 2 to1, 65 % to 33%.

In the Conservative Primary for Amherst highway Supertendent, Bob Anderson 56% to 44% for Kathy Kaminski,

The Republican Primary for the 3 candidates which will represent the Republican Party
in the race for the 3 open positions on the Amherst Town Board. The result of the
Primary shows the Republicans chose the 3 endorsed Republican candidates, Dr. Barry Weinstein, Guy Marlette and Roy Wixson.

Marshall Woods, the Chairman of the Amherst Republican Party deserves praise for sticking to the Republican Committee choices of Wixson, Marlette AND Weinstein.

ALUMNA GIVES $128 MILLION TO HIGH SCHOOL

nullWarren Buffet insired the daughter of his former professor to grant $128 million dollars to the high school she is an allumna of. She said wanted to see the money see the money do some good before she leaves this world.

“It probably would never have happened if Harvard University had not rejected Warren E. Buffett’s business school application in 1950. But a string of events originating with Mr. Buffett’s disappointment led yesterday to a Quaker high school’s receiving a gift that dwarfs some college endowments: $128 million.”

“Officials at George School, a prep school in Bucks County, Pa., were reeling from the contribution, believed to be one of the largest ever to a secondary school. “All I could say was things like, ‘Wow, this is overwhelming,’ ” said Anne Storch, the school’s chief fund-raiser.”
