Fame became the driving force for a lawyer who lost two elections. He decided to gain it by going from town to town in New York preaching downsizing as a way for New York towns to save money.
This lawyer has come to Amherst three times in his shinny, navy blue suit to pitch the need for Amherst to cut two members from the Town Board. He tells us we must go from seven members to five members. He has been strongly rebuffed by the people of Amherst.
Gaughan’s support is coming from The Buffalo News whose reporter for Amherst is now not only reporting the news about downsizing but is becoming part of the news story itself. The Buffalo News should keep it’s Republican slanted bias out of local politics.
Mr. Kevin P. Gaughan, who the Buffalo News calls an activist, is a joke. The only activity Mr. Gaughan is pursuing is being elected to a high office in New York by going town to town, like Johnny Appleseed, planting the seed of discontent. His speeches reek of self-power. He talks about how he is going to get the people of Amherst to sign a petition to place downsizing on the ballot so they can vote on it.
Mr. Gaughan hasn’t earned the right to be called an activist. An activist is a person with guts not a blue shiny suit who meets with Amherst Councilmembers in the men’s room of our town hall to plan strategy.
Mr. Gaughan is an elitist who believes he has the ability to lead people to do things they wouldn’t actually desire to do. In reality he doesn’t have the charisma to be that sort of leader.
Mr. Gaughan should choose another topic to turn the public on to him other than downsizing; like exposing the crooked elements that leech onto candidates. I would gladly join him in that fight and it would be the beginning of him becoming a real activist.
