Fox Confirmed as Rabid

September 20, 2008 11:28 am

For those who live near or use Amherst State Park on Mill, the results are back.  The fox shot by police was confirmed was rabid.  The fox was a grey fox, not red but red foxes have been seen on that land.

Both of the women bitten have begun treatment for rabies.

When you go out remain alert and aware of your surroundings.  Avoid any animal acting in an unusual manner.

This fox was rabid which means any animal he bit or scratched will also have rabies.

The burned down Red Mill site on Reist Street must be cleaned up nowIt is attracting foxes who eat the rats and mice who now live in this burned out site.

This is one time the health and safety of the people must override the Amherst Historical Society as well as the State Historical Society.
