I Have Your Vote Because I Sent You Three Technicolor Flyers. You Owe Me

August 23, 2008 12:07 pm

The flood has begun. Everyday I go to my mailbox and what do I discover? m More beautiful color campaign ads.  The ads point out very little about a candidate’s achievements but the colors in the ad goes into your mind and helps you remember you have to go to Wegman’s to buy ketchup for the hot dogs you’re having for dinner.

The slinger also  helped our family after our picnic dinner.  My children uses the ads to wrap around some half eaten hot dogs to throw in the trash can.

In local races, like the race for the 61st State Senate seat, we have three Democrats and one Republican seeking this vacated seat. There is an political  adage, “If you have enough money to sene three colorful fliers to a voter that will somehow become almost “a religious experience” and will bend the voter’s thinking to vote for the candidate who sent them the technicolor flyers.

I spoke with Dr. Spence, a man who understand the voting patterns of voters.  He said the people who are regular voters have developed a pattern in their voting style like most things in their life. I n the recesses of their mind they feel special because a candidate sent all this literature to them. They feel needed

Most candidates use money to send three or four technicolor slingers instead of using the personal tuch of walking the streets, leaving personal notes, ringing door bells and smiling whether they tell you  they love or hate you.
