In the early days of our country the wisdom of the leaders, whose names included Hamilton, Jefferson, Adams, Washington among others, decided there should be a separation between the church and the state.
At that time in our history the church was very political and powerful. Our forefathers did the right thing at that time in our history.
Now in 2008 there are different issues which divide the state and church. Since history changes the ways and the minds of people we now have the tender issue of abortion.
This word doesn’t sound very frightening but people have died in it’s defense and for its protection. Today our politicians shy away from telling the public whether they support abortion or not.
Most Roman Catholics, who have been brought up in a Christian home, learn that abortion is wrong. As they grow-up, and the sweet temptations of romance enter their lives, most forget the rules they were taught until they choose someone to settle down with and have a family. Most of these young couples plan on having children with no intention of having them aborted.
Then we have people who feel it’s their right to have abortions, and the state agrees with them.
Politicians will be elected this November. Most politicians say what the majority of people want to hear. When they are asked about abortion they stand in line to give their reasons why they support the right of people to choose.
The few who actually tell the truth of how they feel about abortion, pro or con, are fearful the people will vote against them, so they tuck what they were taught and believed about abortion as children years ago, deep in their minds and tell the public they support a woman’s right to choose.
The flip-flopping candidates who once said, “I’m against abortion,” now explain why they changed their minds. The main reason is they want to win but they won’t say this. Instead they make up stories which the public will swallow.
Some information has leaked from the Bishop of Buffalo’s office. The word is that he will be putting out a list of candidates in the area he has jurisdiction over, who are Pro Life. This list will be published in the major Catholic newspaper. It will be in Sunday’s edition before the Primary on Sept. 9th. If you are interested in knowing where candidates really stand on this issue, check it out.
