Press Release: Dan Ward Prepared to Fight For The 61st District

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Michele Iannello may have Lackawanna duo Fran Warthing and Mark Poloncarz singing her praises and getting her money, while the New York City Democratic establishment of Malcolm Smith and Jeff Klein throw thousands of dollars at Joe Mesi, their new found supporter, I’ll rely on the voters who actually live and work in the 61st Senate District.

My name is Dan Ward and those who know me know I have a history of stepping up to the plate for them when there is a problem. I don’t just gratuitously chant  “I’ll fight for you.”  I actually have the political scars that prove I’ve fought for and continue to fight you and your communities.

My opponents talk. They use the words of others. They have ideas. They are the ideas of others.  I have no one coaching me and telling me what to say, think and do.

I am the descendant of a family that settled in the Amherst/Tonawanda area back in 1824.  Because of my family heritage, my first loyalty is to this area, my constituents, my neighbors, and my family, not Lackawanna, not New York City, and certainly not Albany.

I’m not beholding to anyone. I owe no one.  I’ve not promised anything to anybody. I’m not afraid of big words or big problems.  I have the education and the ability to deal with the intense pressures of the capitol without some sponsor holding my hand.  I’ll vote the interest of the 61st Senate District, not Albany and New York City.

I look forward to a debate with my opponents. I fully expect to be the real candidate for change that shows up in Albany next January.

11 Charged in Theft of 41 Million Card Numbers

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Apparently many of those websites that promise your information is safe were wrong.  Eleven individuals have been charged by Federal prosecutors with stealing more than 41 million credit and debt card numbers.  This appears to be the largest hacking and identity theft ring ever exposed.

“The thieves focused on major national retail chains like OfficeMax, Barnes & Noble, BJ’s Wholesale Club, the Sports Authority and T. J. Maxx – the discount clothes retailer that first suggested the existence of the ring early last year, when it said its systems had been breached by hackers.”

“Underscoring the nultinational, collaborative aspect of organized crine today, three of the defendants are United States citizens, one is from Estonia, three are from Ukraine, two are from China and one is from Belarus. The name and whereabouts of the final defendant are unknown.”

More Confusion Surrounding the Rubino Development Affair

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

A petition with the signatures of people, who were against the Rubino brothers’ development, has vanished.  This was the only official list with the names of residents who were against a new housing development.

I spent hours going through the two files of Rubino brothers’ paperwork.  The files contain all the information which was transacted between the lawyer, residents, property owners, the Town Clerk and the Town Assessor.  I have never seen a more scrambled mess.

As I went through the files I realized that several important papers were missing.  There were four people who were asked to have their names removed from the petitions.  One resident wrote to the project’s attorney to have his and his wife’s names removed.  Two neighbors also asked this resident if he would have their names removed as well.  This information was mentioned in a letter to the Supervisor from the project’s attorney.  I couldn’t find out if the names were removed because the original list has disappeared.  It is impossible to know if they were removed and/or who removed them.

Another letter went to the then Town Clerk, Susan Jaros, asking her to remove certain names from the list while adding others.  The petition which is in the file now is a facsimile with brief notes written on it.  It would take Einstein to figure out what everything meant on the facsimile.  It is totally useless as a source to identity whose names were left on the list.  This type of bookkeeping was not the standard of Mrs. Jaros or her staff.  I have to question what the people signed at their homes when the Rubino brothers/Shelly Schratz visited them.

The Rubino brothers and Council member Schratz never denied they visited the residents separately, but who knows what was said to the people?

There should have been one person responsible for adding or removing names, if that is even legal.  There wasn’t, and now we have a mess involving many people as to what part they each played in this affair.

THE FAIRWAYS GROUP UPDATE – Town Board Meeting

UPDATE TOWN BOARD MEETING – MONDAY, AUGUST 4, 2008

1). There was a lengthy public hearing discussion about the serious storm water drainage problems in areas around Amherst. The Town Board voted to bond 1.7 million dollars for a mitigating drainage program for these areas.

The observation was made that one of the primary causes of these drainage problems is the overdevelopment in Amherst which covers over green space, a  natural absorber of  water. Many of our drainage systems are inadequate and unable to properly manage water without causing flooding in and around homeowners’ properties.

We raised this issue regarding paving over of the 33-acre Gun Club property. Is this the reality of what would happen in our neighborhoods, if the Benderson project is allowed to progress?

2). The Town Board voted against the downsizing of the Board from seven to five members.  Dr. Weinstein and Shelly Schratz were the assenting votes.

3). The RUBINO versus the RESIDENTS on Campbell Blvd. was a WIN FOR THE RESIDENTS with a vote 7-0. The Town Board decided not to approve the rezoning application due to the alleged, unethical actions of Deputy Supervisor Shelly Schratz. Schratz acted as a blatant representative of the developer instead of our Town residents, a behavior we suspected occurred with our rezoning issue. Rezoning has become a blood sport in our Town. Hopefully, by shining a light on this glaring example, we can end this collusion between our Town and developers.

BE SURE TO WATCH THESE PROCEEDINGS AND THE VOTE, AT THIS IMPORTANT MEETING.

State Democrats Interfering in 61st State Senate District

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Will the phony politician step forward please.

The Erie County Democratic Party Executive declared that it would not endorse a candidate in the race for State Senator in the 61st District.

But, the New York State Democratic Committee decided to butt in by donating $4,262.25 to the Friends of Joe Mesi campaign. That’s interesting, Mesi is against publicly career while soliciting their money in private.  Smells of a future sellout.

When a New Yorker like Malcolm Smith starts nosing around in local elections you know it is going to be no good for this area.  The fact that the Erie County Executive Committee is staying out of this primary means nothing to a guy who wants to become the future Senate Majority Leader.

This also smells of interference from Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, and Buffalo State Senator Antwan Smith.  Maybe Antwan has promised to deliver Mesi’s vote.

Here’s the fiction from Mesi’s web page:

While Western New Yorkers struggle to find and keep jobs in this tough economy, legislators in Albany are voting to increase their pay when our state is more than 4 billion dollars in debt. Many of these politicians make $90,000 a year, working in a senate thatʼs in session 63 days a year and they enjoy summers off. I believe that politics should be like every other job. You shouldnʼt get a raise until youʼve delivered results. I will fight to bring a sense of responsibility back to Albany.

Receiving $4200 from that very same group of people says Mesi  won’t be fighting anyone  for anything anytime soon.    Malcolm Smith and the New York City people know that. Joe will be compliant.

So much for the Tom Golisano – G. Steven Pigeon, New York needs to move in another direction candidate.
