Don Oakly Of The Independence Party Is Right Again

Monday, July 14th, 2008

So after the TB work session today, the Super Satish goes for an executive session. Why? Glad you asked. The TB was to consider a candidate for Town Engineer.  Imagine that! Now the TB did not (in the Supers opinion)need an executive session for the Town Clerk but he did for the Town Engineer.  Excuse me if I don’t see the logic in these two situations.  I do see the thread of unholy politics.  Pure, simple, dirty politics.  I hope and pray the voters will have the last laugh and vote against the politics as usual.

Anheuser-Busch Agrees To Be Sold To InBev

Monday, July 14th, 2008

Anheuser-Busch agreed on Sunday night to sell itself to the Belgian brewer InBev for about $52 billion, putting control of the nation’s largest beer maker and a fixture of American culture into a European rival’s hands.

InBev confirmed details of the sale Monday in Brussels.

The all-cash deal, for $70 a share, would create the world’s largest brewer, uniting the maker of Budweiser and Michelob with the producer of Stella Artois, Bass and Brahma. Together, the two companies would have sales of more than $36 billion a year, surpassing the current No. 1 brewer, SABMiller of London.

Congressman Higgins Pays Tribute to John Granville at USAID Memorial Service in Washington, DC

Monday, July 14th, 2008

WASHINGTON, DC – At a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Memorial Ceremony for four USAID workers who lost their lives while serving the United States government abroad, Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) paid tribute to Buffalo native John Granville who was killed earlier this year while serving a humanitarian mission in Sudan.

“John Granville was on a selfless mission for peace, freedom and equality in the Sudan region.  He lived it, loved it and gave his life for it.  His understated mission filled a crucial need that touched the lives of civilians displaced and suffering,” said Congressman Higgins. Granville’s name was among four added to a USAID memorial wall during the ceremony.  Other names added included Abdelrahman Abbas Rahama, Chaplain Lako and Dominic Morris.

In Sudan John worked on a project which involved distributing radios to people in the southern part of Sudan, which is recovering from a 21-year civil war.  The goal was to prepare the Sudanese for elections in 2009 and a possible 2011 referendum on independence.  Before joining USAID, John served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Cameroon, where he helped build the first school in a rural village.

John Granville graduated from Canisius High School, Fordham University and earned a Master’s degree in International Development from Clark University.

Congressman Higgins traveled to Sudan in 2006 with fellow colleagues on the House of Representatives Government Reform Subcommittee on National Security, Emerging Threats and International Relations.

“From Buffalo to Africa John’s presence is mourned by the many people whose lives he touched, nevertheless his spirit lives on in the groundwork he laid through his missions,” Higgins added.

“This Nation is forever grateful for his sacrifice as an international agent for peace.”

The Public Is Learning More And More About Legislator Kathy Konst

Monday, July 14th, 2008

Erie County Legislator, Kathy Konst has declared for the NYS Senate 59 District seat instead of the US Congress seat left opened by Tom Reynolds’ retirement.  She said “A recent poll shows that I am in a dead heat for first place in that race.”

Mrs. Konst must know the law stated by the State Board of Elections but which she ignored.  The law states you can’t say anything about a poll without showing all the required information about this makeup poll. There are requirements which must be met before you can quote or write about a poll.

The requirement begins with “No candidate shall attempt to promote the success or defeat of a candidate by directly or indirectly disclosing or causing to be disclosed the results of a poll relating to a candidates for such an office or position unless within 48 hours after such disclosure, they provide the following information concerning the poll to the board or officer with whom statements or copies of statements of campaign receipts and expenditures are required to be filed by the candidate to whom such poll relates.”

a)      The name of the person, party or organization that contracted for or who commissioned the poll and/or paid for it.

b)      The name and address of the organization that conducted the poll.

c)      The numerical size of the total poll sample, the geographic area covered by the poll and any special characteristics of the population included in the poll sample.

d)      The exact wording of the question asked  in the poll and the sequence of such questions.

e)      The method of polling—whether by personal interview, telephone, mail, or other.

f)        The time period in which the poll was conducted.

g)      The number of persons in the poll sample: the number contacted who did not so respond.

h)      The results of the poll.

I checked with the person at the Board of Elections, who is in charge of all polls that are received as required.  She stated there wasn’t any poll which had anything to do with candidate Kathy Konst.

Kathy Konst said, “A recent poll shows that I am in a dead heat for first place in that race. Even if there were such a poll it has no value, it didn’t follow any of the rules set by the Board of Elections, none of them.  Anyone could say this so called poll show Kathy in last place just as well. The public must realize that when a candidate says a poll shows them as winners, they are usually losers.  The public must start asking what else the candidate is lying about.
