There will be a groundbreaking ceremony for the Eggertsville Community Center at 10:00 a.m. this Saturday, June 14, at Bailey and Oxford.
The center had a long history starting with Joe Bachovchim, director of the Youth Board who had a vision back in 1996 that this area needed a center. Then Councilman Dan Ward, in his own inimitable way, convinced the Town Board to put money into a special fund to build or buy a building for this youth center. Every year he would fight with Town Board members to continue funding this project. Finally a building was found and the rest is history. If it weren’t for these two men: Joe Bachovchim and Councilman Dan Ward, we would still be only talking about a community center.
Mark Johnson, the acting Director of the Youth Board, and Shelly Schratz were other major players in the movenment of getting a youth center.
