The Bisons held a workout in the Dunn Tire Park batting cages for the first time since breaking camp and heading north to begin the season. If the weather cooperates, they’ll hold another one outside tomorrow before heading to Norfolk to start the season Thursday night. Not too much to pass along, but there were a few things.
- Last year’s ace Aaron Laffey has been named the opening day starter by manager Torey LoVullo. Not much of a surprise here as the southpaw had a break out season in 2007 and was in the mix for Cleveland’s fifth starter role all spring. Oh and if you’re into trivia, at 22-years old Laffey is the youngest member of this years Bisons’ squad.
- While the Indians have yet to release the results of the MRI of catcher Victor Martinez injured hamstring, the indication here was that no roster move was imminent and Martinez is listed as day-to-day. Obviously things could change if the MRI looks bad, but right now I’d imagine Indians fans (and a whole lot of fantasy baseball owners) will take any good news on Martinez they can get.
- If your looking for a Triple-A rookie who could have a huge impact this year, look no further than highly touted prospect Jordan Brown. Last year’s Eastern League MVP had an amazing spring and when asked about what excited him most about being promoted, he raved about how great it was going to be to have access to video of his at bats. Anytime you’re top prospect is excited about breaking down film to improve his game, it bodes pretty well for his future.
Check back for more tomorrow when the team hits the field for the first time and if I can figure out WNYM’s fancy new hand held HD camera, we should have some video clips for you to check out.
