EDITORIAL: $60 To Fill Your Gas Tank, WHY ?

Friday, March 7th, 2008

WHY? WHY?  Why is gasoline costing the public so much money ? There have to be some clear cut reasons.  Is there a shortage of oil in the world?  The answer is, NO, also the world’s oil companies are making profits in the billions.

After looking at these two facts the average citizen must say to himself, “There must be other reasons beyond human understanding.  There is enough oil and the people in charge are making billions.  Then why is the cost of gasoline so expensive?”

Is it the taxes our state, and county tack on gas which makes it so astronomically high?  That is part of the answer but what are the bigger reasons?

As a resident of Amherst I would like your input.  Why do YOU believe gasoline prices are so high?

McCain rejects anti-Catholic views

Friday, March 7th, 2008

John McCain, the Republican candidate for President knows he can’t alienate a major religion like the Roman Catholic Church. He also knows he has to repudiated any religious leader who attacks another faith out of hatred. This was the case concerning televangelist John Hagee ,who endorsed McCain  then  when on to blast the Roman Catholic Church as “the great whore” and called it a “false cult system”—“apostate” means someone who has forsaken his religion.Republican presidential candidate John McCain on Friday repudiated any views of a prominent televangelist who endorsed him last month “if they are anti-Catholic or offensive to Catholics.” On Friday, McCain took a stronger stance on Hagee’s views in an interview with The Associated Press.”We’ve had a dignified campaign, and I repudiate any comments that are made, including Pastor Hagee’s, if they are anti-Catholic or offensive to Catholics,” McCain said.“I sent two of my children to Catholic school. I categorically reject and repudiate any statement that was made that was anti-Catholic, both in intent and nature. I categorically reject it, and I repudiate it,” McCain said.“And we can’t have that in this campaign,” McCain said. “We’re trying to unite the country. We’re uniting the country, not dividing it.”By LIBBY QUAID, Associated Press Writer

Democrats Try to End Impasse Over Delegates

Friday, March 7th, 2008

Even as primaries continue to be held there are battles waging for delegates in places where primaries were held ages ago.  Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are working diligently to acquire their fair share of those delegates.

“The fate of the Florida and Michigan delegations has emerged as a battleground that could be as important to the candidates as April’s Pennsylvania primary.”

“Mrs. Clinton won the most votes in primaries in Florida and Michigan in January. But the states held their contests earlier than allowed by the Democratic National Committee’s rules, leading the party to strip them of their delegates to the nominating convention. Neither candidate campaigned actively in the two states, and Mr. Obama was not on the ballot in Michigan.”
