EDITORIAL: THERE IS NOTHING LIKE A DAME ~ TO SOLVE PROBLEMS

February 6, 2008 11:55 pm

There Is Nothing Like A Dame.

The history of recorded time has shown that the women of the world can, and have, effectively ruled counties for long periods of time.  We can’t forget the reign of Queen Elizabeth the First, who ruled England through glorious years of both war and a very extended period of peace.  There have been many women who led their countries with strength and courage. The world had Queen Victoria, Prime  Minister Thatcher, Indira Gandhi, Golda Meier among other skillful women leaders.

Hillary Clinton is a lady who has been tested by life’s bitterness and she has stood her ground.  She is a survivor.  As a man I learned at a young age, it’s nearly impossible to figure out exactly what a woman is thinking or apt to do.

Many of us remember the musical South Pacific, which was about a part of WWII.  There is a song in the play (“There is Nothing Like a Dame “) which was as true in 1941 as it is today.  “There is Nothing Like a Dame “ to lift a person’s spirits as well as those of a country.

Hillary Clinton has demonstrated she knows when change is occurring in her own life as well as in the country she loves.  Her ability to read people and the changing times has helped her find some of the answers to the serious problems our country is facing.

Our country is facing a serious economic turnabout which will affect all of us but especially the older people who have only a certain amount of money coming in each month.  That fixed income will be tested and stretched thin.

The economic picture has to be faced.  I don’t think I’m being foolish when I ask, who handles the money in most American households? The WOMEN do.  They seem to have a better sense of how money must be spent and how to get the best bang for their buck.

America has more choices for our next President than ever in the history of our country.  What we don’t want is a government which is secretive and still controled by special interest groups - like our own beloved Amherst is.

Amherst Beware! Town Board Members, serve the people!
