Subject: Stop the Development, Please!

I am a former resident of Donna Lea; my mother still lives there.

I am absolutely appalled at the plans being developed for the site on Maple Road that is adjacent to this peaceful, family-oriented neighborhood.  It wasn’t until I saw the fairwaysblvd website and corresponding site plans that I fully understood the enormity of this project.  I cannot find one positive aspect of this for anyone, except the developer of course – who obviously is not a nearby resident.  Someone must have blinders on, to not see the potential for horrendous gridlock traffic situations; a multitude of safety concerns for the residents, especially the children who walk to nearby schools; and the “lesser” problems of noise and pollution.  It is frightening to think about the situation on Donna Lea on a winter afternoon at 5:00 p.m:  Cars parked on both sides of the street, when it is pitch black (because there are NO street lights installed), and all that traffic trying to take a short cut from Maple Road to Sheridan Drive; young people coming home from after school activities, etc.  Both Fairways and Sunrise Boulevards would, of course, also be impacted, but Donna Lea would be the first street of choice, as it is the most direct link to/from Maple Road.  How many tragedies would have to occur before they finally realize they should have listened to the residents.

It became obvious to me that this was strictly an issue generated by greed when I read, “We have a multitude of ways to defeat Super-majority…”  Don’t try to tell us that you are doing this for the good of the town.  There is nothing to be gained from this development for the residents of the Maplemere district and so much to be lost.  I urge you to not allow this project to proceed.  First Wal-Mart, then this – what is next – Bendersonville, instead of Williamsville?
