AMHERSTTIMES.COM EDITOR REMEMBERS BACK TO HIS FIRST MEETING WITH HILLARY CLINTON

January 12, 2008 10:54 am

Today the “Comeback Kid” is Hillary Clinton, yes I said Hillary not Bill, who surprised the political pundits by coming from a 15 point underdog position in a 24 hour period, to beat her chief rival in New Hampshire’s Democratic Primary, Tuesday, 1/08/08.

When I first met Senator Hillary Clinton she was trying to capture the Democratic nod to run for Senator of New York State.  My friend Steve Casey was deeply involved in her campaign.  Yes, he’s the same Steve Casey who is presently Buffalo’s Assistant Mayor under Mayor Brown.

Steve called me to help out when Mrs. Clinton arrived at Amherst’s Prior Aviation.   When he introduced me to her I couldn’t stop myself from saying how beautiful her blue eyes were!  She smiled and said, “Thank you.”  I felt like a kid meeting a hero.

Since that day I’ve had other conversations with her at various times but I will never forget the first time I met her.

I have always been thankful to Steve Casey, who is still a friend, for this opportunity.
