Dr. Mohan is a small wind which blew into Amherst making grand wishes to the people. After two years in office any positive results can be credited to other people. When he ran for Supervisor of Amherst he pledged he would never lie to the public.
In his campaign for Town Supervisor Mohan used full and half page ads in the Buffalo News to carry his message to the people. It was always the same message in every ad. He perfected the lies the public wanted to hear. He won because of the ‘anti-vote’ against the previous leadership. I guess in some places lying is a way to survive.
Mohan promised the public he would lower taxes 15% in the first year, he would work for a dollar a year, and he would reduce our budget. He has failed us in every one of those promises.
Now this grandfather figure with the huge smile is trying to receive an increase in his salary of 33%, from $75,000 to $100,000 a year. This is the same man who begrudged town workers’ increase in pay because, ‘They are just workers.’
Dr. Mohan has endeared himself to many people in Amherst because he is able to act as a victim of the political machine instead of showing them the truth about how he swings his powerful political clout to instill fear in politicians. He has all the personal wealth he needs to hurt or help politicians. Anyone who speaks against him is “Anti-Amherst”.
Mohan’s reign in Amherst is reminiscent of the Joe McCarthy witch hunt in the ’50’s. McCarthy’s committee would blacklist people so they couldn’t get a job because they weren’t “Up front Americans.” Even President Ike was afraid to say anything about him in fear of gaining his wrath and possible losing the 1956 election. Thank GOD there were people like Edward R. Murrow and Judge Welch to stand against him.
Mohan is an angry little man who is trying to show he can do everything his way because of his status in this town. He is a paper tiger with little or no substance.
If the Supervisor is to be paid more money it should be based on merit. Look closely at his achievements, if you can find any. You may want him to give back his pay and demand he work for a dollar, like he said he would.
Give him a raise? Does he really deserve it?
