EDITORIAL: DOES AMHERST NEED A ‘STEPFORD VILLAGE’ ON MAPLE ROAD?

nullThe people of Amherst who attended Monday nights Town Board meeting seemed to be taken by the concept of having retail stores, housing units, a hotel and some other features all in the same place in the middle of Maple road.

The presentation by the people who represented the Benderson Development Company did a magical job of turning a retail, housing complex moneymaker into a fairytale village for Amherst.

Yes, Amherst will gain financially from this development but whatever you almost bet on the fact that whatever Town Board members or Supervisor is governing Amherst when this project is finished, they will find ways to blow any money earned from this project.

The people of Amherst need to stop and think of what they’re giving up to have more retail stores and housing units in a robotic setting. The concept of this development is geared for a similar type of person; someone who wants to live in a “Stepford Setting” where everything thing is perfect. Forget It.
